Nairobi is strengthening its position as a leading business tourism destination through investment in world-class MICE infrastructure, with the 11,000-seat Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC) serving as a flagship project. The development is expected to enhance Kenya’s competitiveness in the global conferencing market.
The economic impact extends beyond events and conferences, driving demand across hospitality, transport, retail, logistics, and tourism services. Industry stakeholders view high-quality convention infrastructure as a catalyst for job creation, visitor spending, and broader economic growth throughout the tourism value chain.
Currently at 40% completion, the BICC employs more than 2,500 workers daily and is being delivered by the Ministry of Defence. The project also highlights growing female participation in construction, engineering, surveying, safety management, and heavy equipment operations.
